Lori Zanteson

Thanks for visiting! I’m a lifelong writer who is thrilled to write for a living. It took about ten years of after-hours freelancing to leap into full-time freelance writing, which I’ve enjoyed for the last four years. I write features, columns, reports, blogs, website copy, and I edit a couple newsletters as well. Topics include food, nutrition, health, fitness, children and families, and the craft of writing, but I’m always up for new challenges.

While I enjoy the many established relationships I have with publications such as Environmental Nutrition, where I’m a contributing editor, QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) Magazine, where I’m the food section editor, Today’s Dietitian, and L.A. Parent, I also enjoy writing for publications with topics outside my niche—they keep my writing fresh and lively.

A former English teacher and writing instructor—though I still dabble in writing instruction—I have a trained eye for precision, accuracy, style and flow. Admittedly, achieving them sometimes borders on obsession, but it’s all worthwhile once that final draft is sent. I’m also a hardcore stickler for deadlines. On time, no excuses.

My degree is in English and American Literature from the University of California at San Diego. I also spent a couple additional years studying English and secondary Education at California State University at Northridge before I taught high school English for almost 20 years—with three maternity leaves and a lot of midnight writing thrown in.

I live in Southern California with my husband of 17 years, Will, our three kids—Jane, 15, Liam, 13, and Bradley, 9—and a barnyard of critters from fish, bullfrogs, and the raccoons that taunt them, to twin dumbo rats, a geriatric white rabbit and a chocolate Lab who resembles a small bear.
